Today, 21 August, marks National Senior Citizens Day, a chance to celebrate older people and recognise the important contribution they make to our families and communities.

At Down Armagh Rural Transport (DART), supporting older people to stay active, independent and connected is at the heart of what we do.

For people living in rural communities, getting from A to B isn't always straightforward. Limited access to transport can make everyday activities such as attending appointments, going shopping, meeting friends or taking part in community activities more difficult.

That's where community transport can make a real difference.

More Than Just a Journey

At DART, we believe transport is about much more than reaching a destination. It's about helping people maintain their independence, stay connected with others and continue participating in their local community.

Our services provide accessible and affordable transport for people across the ABC areas who may otherwise find it difficult to travel.

For many of our older passengers, a journey with DART can mean getting to an important appointment, doing the weekly shop, visiting friends and family or simply having the opportunity to get out and enjoy some company.

Helping Rural Communities Stay Connected

Social connection is important at every stage of life, and reliable transport can play a vital role in reducing isolation, particularly for older people living in rural areas.

We're proud that DART can help bridge that gap by connecting our members with the services, activities and people that matter to them.
