Recently, we had the pleasure of delivering Passenger Assistance Training (PATS) to several of our LCP groups. This training forms a vital part of ensuring that the transport services supporting our communities, particularly those used by older people, individuals with disabilities, and other vulnerable passengers; are safe, inclusive, and delivered with confidence and care.
PATS provides practical, hands-on training for anyone involved in transporting passengers in minibuses. During the sessions, participants learned essential skills such as safe boarding and alighting techniques, understanding mobility needs, effective communication, and how to provide reassurance and support to those who may feel anxious or unsure when travelling.
Our LCP groups play a crucial role in connecting residents to services, social activities, and key appointments, often acting as a lifeline for people who might otherwise face isolation or difficulty getting around. Strengthening these groups with high-quality passenger assistance skills directly improves the quality of life for the people they support.
What stood out throughout the training was the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved. Participants shared their experiences of working with vulnerable passengers and welcomed the opportunity to build their confidence in handling a variety of real-life situations. Their dedication reflects the values at the heart of our community work: dignity, empathy, and safety for all.
By investing in PATS training, we’re empowering our LCP groups to deliver transport services that are not only efficient but genuinely person-centred. This investment ensures passengers are treated with respect, supported appropriately, and able to travel with peace of mind.
We’re proud to continue building the skills and capacity within our community partnerships and look forward to further training opportunities that strengthen local services
