Meet Millar, a valued DART Volunteer.
When Millar first became involved with DART back in 2007, he had no idea how much it would become part of his life. After a chance conversation outside Tesco and being handed a DART leaflet, he decided to give volunteering a go, and nearly two decades later, he’s still making a difference in his local community.
Millar started out helping with groups in Aghagallon and Derrytrasna and quickly discovered how rewarding volunteering could be. Over the years, he’s met countless people, built lasting friendships, and become a familiar face within the groups.

“The best thing about volunteering is the craic,” Millar says. “There are some real characters in the groups and it’s great to spend time with people. Every group is different and that’s what makes it enjoyable.”
From walking groups to indoor bowling sessions, Millar enjoys getting involved and helping create welcoming spaces where people can connect, stay active, and enjoy each other’s company.
For Millar, volunteering is about giving something back and being there for others in the community. He believes even a few hours of your time can make a real difference, not just to others, but to yourself too.
Volunteering with DART is flexible and designed to fit around your life. Whether you can spare a couple of hours a month or want to become more regularly involved, there are opportunities to suit everyone. If you are not interested in a driving role we also have volunteer befriender roles available on board our buses.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, Millar would encourage you to take that first step.
“It’s so rewarding. You meet people, have a laugh, and know you’re helping others at the same time.”
DART are so thankful for Millar who is such a part of our team.
